“The Sound of Music” 1965
One of the best-known Julie Andrews films set in the mountains of Austria during World War II when Andrew’s character, Maria, is living as a nun and becomes a nanny for a military family. She changes the lives of the children and their strict military father through the magic of music.
“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” 1968
This musical movie stars Dick Van Dyke who is taking care of his two children after their mother passes as he invents all kinds of crazy devices including a flying motorcar called Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. This is a timeless classic that features adventure through song.
“Mary Poppins” 1964
Let’s face it, Julie Andrews playing a nanny is the best thing to happen in musical movies including the 1964 Disney classic “Mary Poppins.” This is a well-known musical movie that is great for all ages and features fun sing-along songs.
“Moulin Rouge!” 2001
This glamourous Baz Luhrmann film takes place in 1899 before the turn of the century during the bohemian revolution in France when a young writer (Ewan McGregor) visits the infamous dance hall at the Moulin Rouge and falls in love with the star of the show, Satine (Nicole Kidman). This film is filled with amazing songs including reimagined songs from David Bowie, Elton John, and The Police.
“Rock of Ages” 2012
This musical movie is filled with rock songs from famous bands including Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Journey, and more. This movie was adapted from a broadway play that follows aspiring singer Sherrie (Julianne Hough) and Drew (Diego Boneta) chasing their dreams to become famous in 1980s Hollywood.
