Nothing promotes social responsibility like gift card prizes.
A good way to get people more excited about the notion of wearing masks for the public good is turning it into a competition. To that end, the city of Tampa, Florida (where masks are very much necessary right now) has decided to run a mask fashion competition. Whether you took a regular mask and fancied it up or made one entirely from scratch, if you’ve got a good looking mask, they want to see it.
In the spirit of the contest’s theme, the whole thing will be run online. Anyone who wants to enter just needs to take a picture of themselves wearing their mask, post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, and tag it with Tampa and the hashtag #FaceTheFactsTPA. Entries will be judged based on several categories, including “Best Homemade” and “Most Creative.”
Tampa is hoping that the competition will “encourage residents to embrace face coverings as an essential, yet fashionable addition to any wardrobe.” If the notion of fashionable social responsibility isn’t appealing enough for you, then good news: there’s prizes. Competition winners can win gift cards ranging from $50 to $100 values to various local partners and businesses, including Bern’s Steak House, Forbici Modern Italian, Columbia Restaurant Group, and Armature Works.
The entry phase of the competition will run until the end of the day on July 12. The competition runners have clarified that both hand-made and store-bought masks are acceptable. Since masks are currently required in Tampa anyway, you might as well go all out and really express yourself. Remember, just because it’s a safety measure doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun with it.
