DIY Butterfly Water Feeder

Add some life to your outdoor garden space with this butterfly water feeder that is super easy to make at home and is a fun family activity.

Equipment

  • River Stones or Rocks
  • Grape Vine Wreath
  • Twine
  • Glass Pie Plate (one that fits snug in the wreath)

Instructions

  • Cut 4 pieces of twine around each quarter section of the wreath, joining all the pieces of twine together at the top to evenly hang.
  • Place the glass pie dish in the center, lining the bottom with the river stones or rocks (for butterflies to rest on without getting wet from the water).
  • Add a small amount of water to the dish without submerging all the stones or rocks.
  • Simply rinse and change the water daily to keep clean.
  • Enjoy welcoming new butterflies to your garden.

Notes

You can either place the feeder on a plant stand, old birdbath, or chair. Another option is to hang it from a garden pole or tree branch. For maintenance, it's recommended to remove the pie dish to rinse and replace it with fresh water daily. To avoid extra debris, change the rocks or stones regularly. The twine is durable and you only have to replace once or twice a year depending on wear.
