Someone’s walking a runway, spectators or not.
Multiple fashion shows to be held by a variety of houses were originally scheduled for April or May. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, all of those shows had to be either cancelled or postponed indefinitely. Now that we’re all settling into the pandemic lifestyle, though, the houses want to get their shows up and running again, even if they have to close them off to public spectators.
Christian Dior announced on Monday that one of their major shows, originally meant to be held in May, has been officially rescheduled for July 22. Models, makeup artists, and other essential staff will be flown in to Italy for a catwalk show at Lecce’s Piazza del Duomo. However, this event will be completely restricted to the public. The only ones in the audience will be close friends and family of creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri and her staff. For everyone else, the show will be streamed live online.

Burberry has scheduled their show even further out to September 17, the eve of London Fashion Week. The show will be “a physical presentation that is open for all to experience digitally,” according to designer Ricardo Tisci. “Other than the models and our team, there will not be anybody physically at the location.”
Even Milan fashion week is set to be a digital-first event, with audience participation limited to little-to-none, though Dolce & Gabbana are planning to hold a small event at Humanitas University where they hope they can accommodate at least a small in-person crowd.
