This warm treat is great for friends and family get-togethers
A festive sweet treat to enjoy on colder days is the traditional baked cinnamon apple that you can tailor to your taste with a customized recipe of your favorite flavors. This freestyle recipe can be customized for a fun baking activity to enjoy with family and friends.
The best type of apples to use for this dessert is Gala and Fuji apples that maintain their shape while having a soft inside when baked. Get one apple per person and prep the apples by removing the core with a paring knife or melon baller keeping the bottom intact.
Fill the apple with butter (recommended to pre-cut butter into small cubes while firm) and prepare sweetener flavoring for apples. Each apple will require 1 tablespoon of sweeteners of your choice such as honey, coconut sugar, maple syrup, or maple sugar.
You can customize the flavor of your baked apple with two of your favorite baking spices including cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, allspice, and/or clove with a pinch of salt. Place the apples in a baking dish with sidewalls at least 2 inches high to hold all ingredients in the pan while baking.
Instead of using a non-stick spray, pour approximately 1 inch of liquid around the base of the apples that can be water or a sweeter substitute. Using apple cider adds more sweetness to the apples with the optional ingredients of brand or bourbon.
Bake the apples at 350°F for 40-45 minutes that is ready once tender and check after 30 minutes to see if the baking dish is dry. If the baking dish is dry add more liquid to prevent burning while checking the tenderness of the apples.
Let the apples cool but it’s recommended to serve while warm that pairs well with a splash of cold heavy cream or a scoop of ice cream. Enjoy this warm treat with your loved ones for your customized dessert everyone is sure to love.
